LOOKING BACK...

Be patient! This page is photo-heavy, it will take a while to load,

Dag mirror portrait

Somewhere on the road in the early Seventies:
a self-portrait in a hotel room mirror...
I always keep both eyes open while shooting.
This way, I feel that I am not just TAKING something,
but giving something back. It's so much more personal.

  • Several years later... another hotel room mirror, and DONNA SUMMER!
(Yes, her page is coming soon!)
Meanwhile, check out her new autobio "ORDINARY GIRL"! (RandomHouse)
I have 8 photographs in it!

  • Sometimes
I was lucky to get a shot WITH the groups I was interviewing.

Here's the very first one, I believe,
with ELTON JOHN, his drummer NIGEL OLSSON and his bassist DEE MURRAY,

    Elton John group and Dagmar

after I dragged them out of their Detroit hotel to shoot a set
at a childrens' playground nearby, in the fall of 1970.
It was also the very first reportage on Elton for Germany! A scoop!!

My story started with the words:
"Just three months ago, people were asking: 'Elton Who?'
Now there's a new sound, a new phenomenon on the rock firmament."

  • Oct. 6, 1974, at the METROPOLITAN OPERA in NEW YORK....
before the "epic" LABELLE concert with Sarah Dash, Patti LaBelle and Nona Hendryx

Labelle was the first Black act ever to make the Met!
"Voulez-vous coucher avec moi?" became one French sentence everybody could translate.
...and my photographs ran in papers and magazines across the board,
from the Village Voice to the Black magazine "encore" (Jan 6, 1975).

  • Oct. 30, 1974, DANCING and clowning around with FRANK ZAPPA....
at his BLUE HAWAII Party in New York
before photographing his performance in November at the Felt Forum.

Zappa died in December 1993... one of my projects is a tribute page
to this creative composer/guitarist, with the outlandish reputation...

  • ALSO IN THE WORKS:

a page on books and magazine covers with my photos.

    like these:

Joni on the cover of GIG and cover of Philadelphia Wkly

Joni Mitchell happy in California and Bowie pensive in Philadelphia...

    Remember:

  • All pictures shown here are protected by international copyright laws.
If you would like to buy, use, show any of them, get in touch with me and we'll talk about it!

Copying my pictures from the web and from books to sell them on eBay
    is DEFINITELY NOT AN OPTION!!
Seller "epshotz" and friends, take heed!!
And to those tempted to bid on these stolen prints,
I can only say that their quality is nowhere near what it should be.
They are crummy rip-off reprints. Don't waste your money.
