Burla-Anton

Anton Krajnc working on a fresco-section of

"Adam naming the Animals"

Burla, the dog, is being portrayed here.
He was a wonderful, patient and non-critical companion
and didn't mind spending long hours with the artist, while he painted.

Note the irregular shape of the
contours of the day's work ("giornata").
Every day the section to be painted
has to be plastered very carefully,
making a smooth and practically invisible
transition between the separate giornate.

Martina

Several of the animals depicted in the scene with Adam were live visitors to the chapel. Some were more willing models than others... Burla was always there. The piglet was brought by Martina, who lives in the village of Fischlham and had quite a selection to choose from, as her family raises pigs. The horse decided not to enter, right at the narrow chapel door... And the artist decided against the billy goat, preferring to sketch it at its home, a nearby farm.

This experience, as part of the whole three summers' work on the frescoes, was put into a small limited edition book with photographs,
which sold out. We are planning to reprint the book.
