Sherman's Lagoon

Picked up the June edition of "Wizard" magazine today, & you won't believe it!! They had an article called "Hang Ten: The ten biggest creator's in the comic book world."

And ringing in at number 10: "KEVIN EASTMAN AND PETER LAIRD CLAIM TO FAME: Creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, pioneers of the mass-marketed comic book creation. WHY THEY'RE #10: Before Todd McFarlane's "Spawn" empire came two average joes with a crazy notion. Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird only planned a one-shot, black and white spoof of the popular comics of the early '80's--the teenage mutants of "X-Men" and the ninjas of "Daredevil." But when "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" #1 hit in 1984, it sold out instantly. Then four more printings were sold out. The duo's creator-owned, kitchen table operation--started with a $500 investment--became an overnight sensation, and the black-and-white small-press world *exploded* with hundreds of copycat books. Now anyone with a dollar and a dream could strike it rich. Eastman and Laird struck it *very* rich. Suddenly you didn't have to be Superman to be merchandised--the Turtles spawned toys, movies, cartoons, Flav-R-Pops, sneakers and Kraft macaroni and cheese dinners. Eastman and Laird paved the way for independent comic projects to reach Middle America, giving creators more muscle than ever before." Submitted by Leah~Nardo

Sherman's Lagoon

Fillmore, an ocean turtle, and Sherman, a shark, are talking together:
Fillmore:
"I'm not exotic enough, Sherman. That's why I have problems with getting a girlfriend!"
Fillmore: "Look at me! I'm just a very ordinary ocean turtle with a background in the suburbs and as a choir boy."
Then there's a panel where they just stare into open space for a while, and in the next panel, Fillmore suddenly exclaims:
"Why couldn't I have been born as a ninja!!??"
Sherman: "Talk about bad choice of parents."

Sonic The Hedgehog

Sonic is running through a sewer system, and we see the TMNT walking in the background.
Leo says: "Guys, I think we're in the wrong sewer,"
Then Mike says: "Or in the wrong comic,"

Boris the Bear

There was a comic published waaaay back by Dark Horse (I think it was the first book they ever published, actually) called Boris the Bear. In it, Boris kills all these B&W comic book characters including "Sloberus the aardvark" and 4 whiny turtles called Mikey, Donny, and I can't remember the names of the other 2.

Gen13

#13A, B and C were parts of a "Wizard of Oz" type story where Grunge roamed the land of "Sequential Art" (Will Eisner reference?) in a dream and encountered many comic book characters along the way. He met the TMNT briefly at the very beginning of #13B.
It was kind of a funny scene (in a sad sorta way, heh), as the turtles were practically buried in a pile of their own merchandise, complaining about the PRs stealing their fame.

Joe Psycho and Moo Frog

The Evolution of Moo Frog:
(first it shows a small tad pole with cow horns)
The Moo Pole
(second it shows a small cow with the face of a frog)
1987
(Grazengrass Amphibidipidus) This was the first documented case of the Moo Frog. Note the definitive cow and frog characteristics.
(ok..I'm skipping a bit here..but anyways..)
(Fifth it shows a creature with cow hair, cow horns, frog eyes, and a Ninja Turtle Beak from the cartoons (you know..the common half-mouth-in-a-sneer-look?)
1990
The Turtle Phase. Induced by Ninja Mania, this mutated MooFrog was killed off by his own innate fear of inadequacy. (sides' he was silly lookin')
