Christians Persecuted all over the world

Hot Spots on the map:
(the worst places on earth to be a Christian)

China - 83 million (by now this figure must be higher) born-again Christians meeting in secret in their houses, persecuted by the government and betrayed by the "official churches".
Egypt - Coptic Christians are being persecuted by the Egyptian Government (which receives about $2 billion a year in assistance from the US Gov.).  Accounts include burning Christian churches and torture (in some cases using electric shocks applied to people's genitals).
Indonesia - read about it in your local paper.
Pakistan (read the story below) and more...
Sudan - Christian churches burned, in some cases with the believers inside; managed famine used to convert people to Islam; Christians taken as slaves -  children, especially young girls.

A two year old saga of a Pakistani girl, Saleema.

(this is two years back)
This request was received in our office yesterday via email from Mr.David Walter

"I have received an urgent prayer request through someone in my church. There is a beautiful 15 year old girl named Saleema in Pakistan who is a Christian. She converted her close friend, who was 14. This youngster was so excited about Christianity that she told her parents and they killed her!

It looks like the 15 year old (Saleema) is to be publicly executed! We need to send up prayer for this child to give her strength and resolve to deal with whatever happens to her. Please pass this information on to as many other Christians as you can."

That is the request exactly as we received it. Please Pray

(this is an update on Saleema's whereabouts)
Update on Saleema, Pakistan

Saleema was arrested in 1997 for converting her friend to Christianity. After conversion, her friend was killed by her own family for her faith in Jesus Christ.
Because of this, Saleema was also originally charged with the death of her friend. Saleema is now 18 years old and has been passed from court to court -- going higher each time in the Pakistani judicial system.
She has been in a care facility for some time, and a recent report said she is in great pain. Saleema was unable to attend court because of health problems due to police beating and torture in June, 1997. She is unable to stand and walk. Her back, hip and ankles are sore and full of pain.
I spoke with our (VOM) Communications Department today and they asked that this information not be shared with the media (it could put Saleema in danger), but rather be used to encourage prayer. Saleema is going to court today again, and we are praying for good results.

We have learned, as of February 1999, that the Pakistani girl, Saleema, died.  (Info from the Missler Report

A curious development of the above story:
Minorities march against Hindu rule.

NEW DELHI, India

United by fears of violence, thousands of Christians and Muslims marched through New Delhi yesterday, demanding that India's Hindu nationalist-led government step down for failing to protect minorities.

Catholic priest killed in India

NEW DELHI - A Roman Catholic priest, asleep in a remote eastern hamlet where he had been counselli\ing the poor, was slain by a mob early yesterday morning, cut down by bows and arrows as he tried to escape an attack, the poIice said.
The killing was in Jamabani, a village in Orissa, not far from where a Christian missionary and his two sons were killed in January. Few details were known about the new incident as authorities from the district capital, Baripada, had to travel a long distance through rough terrain to go to the scene.
The priest, who used the single name Aruldoss, made weekly visits to the village from his church in Anadapur, said a fellow priest, the Rev. Jose Thundiyl. The journey required a 20-mile ride on a motor scooter followed by a 12-mile hike.

Missionary in Africa

Mike Hutchinson, an IMB missionary, and his family need our prayers.

Formerly of the First Baptist Church in Long Beach, Miss. This missionary is currently in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. His car was surrounded by Muslims as he and his family drove home.
After patiently waiting and asking them to move, they finally pulled
away from his car. As Mike started to drive away, a 16-year-old Muslim jumped (or was pushed) in front of Mike's car and was killed. The Muslims arrested Mike (took his passport) and are placing him on trial for murder. If convicted, he will be hanged immediately. His wife, Lynn, and his family (children 12, 10 and 9) are staying with another missionary family. Please pray for God's intervention. Please share this with your church, prayer chain, e-mail list, and anyone else you know who will pray for this missionary!

PERSECUTION WATCH:  Ten Filipino adults and five small children
arrested with at a Christian worship service in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
on January 7 continue to be kept incommunicado by the Saudi "muttawa" (Islamic religious police) on January 7.(2) The 15 arrested Christians have not been allowed diplomatic access or family visits.  No official reason has been given for detention of the five children but Filipino Christian sources in Riyadh are concerned that police interrogators are using the young children as hostages, to force their  parents to reveal details about the network of expatriate Christian fellowships meeting for worship in Saudi Arabia.
