Houston Obedience Training Dog Club offers obedience classes to the public and members at the puppy, basic, beginning novice and intermediate novice level. All classes are eight weeks in length with the exception of puppy classes which lasts five weeks. The goal of each class is to teach members and the public:

1) how to be more responsible puppy/dog owners,

2) how to socialize their puppy/dog, and

3) how to recognize and encourage appropriate behavior through effective communication.

All public classes are taught by members of the Houston Obedience Training Dog Club. Each instructor has been an active member of the H.O.T. Dog Club for a minimum of five years and has earned a Companion Dog (CD) and Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) title on their dog or two Companion Dog (C.D.) titles on two different dogs while a member of the club.

Chelsea as a puppyPuppy Classes are designed to help the owner establish leadership, learn how and when to discipline and assist with the leash breaking, socialization and housebreaking of a puppy up to five months of age. Students learn how to teach their puppy to walk on a leash, and basic commands such as sit, down, stay, quiet and come. Puppy class instructors also review grooming and nail trimming, general health information, behavior and seasonal problems with students. Plenty of play time is included and games are used to teach retrieve and come exercises. Happy, healthy, confident puppies grow up to well socialized companion animals.
