Robert Looney Jr. Branch
Begin pg 86

On 19 August 1830 Allen 5 Looney gave Power of Attorney to John Copenheifer to sell land for which patent had not yet been issued. Allen Looney bought 80 acres from John Stewart in Jackson County, Alabama, on 11 October 1831.

Like his father, Allen removed to Missouri in the thirties. Allen went after the birth of his daughter Frances A. in 1837, and in 1840 is found in Greene County with Mary Ann (b. 1824) listed 15/20, and Dorcas (b. 1827), listed 10/15, Sally (b. 1831) listed 5/10, John F. (b. 1834) listed 5/10, and Frances A. (b. 1837) listed 0/5. Also there appears in Allen's household at this census a boy listed 15/20. Was this the Jesse Looney b. 25 November 1825, son of John 5 and Elizabeth Littleton Looney? This man married 15 February 1844 Mary Ann Looney, eldest daughter of Allen 5 Looney.

Allen and Elizabeth Looney remained in Greene County and are listed there in the census of 1850 and 1860, although his father removed to St. Clair County, Missouri, before 1850.

On 18 November 1852 Allen Looney bought 80 acres from B. A. James and Polly Ann James, his wife, for $275.

On 9 April 1858 Allen and Elizabeth Looney, his wife, sold to John F. Looney for $200 75 acres of land in Section. 11, Township 31 of Range 24.

Allen 5 Looney died 8 August 1872 and his wife Elizabeth died 6 September 1872. W. H. Cook applied for administration of the estate on 15 October 1872. A sale was held on 26 October 1872. The land seems to have been sold to John F. Looney by a series of quit claim deeds from various heirs to the said John F. Looney.

Note on Greenway:

The Allen Looney family papers indicate that William Greenway married Elizabeth and had:

Betsy Greenway b. 24 January 1790. (Did she die young?)

	Elizabeth Greenway b. 6 or 7 April 1792.

	George Greenway b. 27 October 1799.

	Polly Ann Greenway b. 23 November 1801.

	James Greenway b. 26 December 1803.

Jesse and John Greenway b. 11 April 1807.

There is also a statement that: "Grandmother Looney was Elizabeth Greenway, b. April 6, 1792. Her mother and father were William and Betsy Greenway."

Again, "from an old Bible": "Allen Looney and Elizabeth Bledsoe married August 15, 1822."

"From old papers", Elizabeth Bledsoe born 6 August 1804, died 6 September 1872.

Some have thought that Allen may have married twice. He might have m. (1) Elizabeth Greenway who died without issue but she was six years older and all of his children were born after the marriage to Elizabeth Bledsoe 15 August 1822. So, why in such a case should descendants speak of their Grandmother Looney as a Greenway? Possibly a clue is found in another old written fragment, "Grandmother _____________ Elizabeth Greenway was her mother." That is, a grandchild of John F. Looney might be thinking of the wife of John F. Looney as "Grandmother", and in that case saying that Elizabeth Greenway was the mother of John F. Looney's wife. Elizabeth Greenway (b. 1792) was scarcely old enouth to have been mother of Elizabeth Bledsoe (b. 1804).

William(5) J. Looney (Isam(4) Benjamin(3) ) was born 15 Sept. 1800 in western Hawkins County, Tennessee, perhaps in Stanley Valley. By 1819 he was living on Indian lands along the Tennessee River and in the summer of 1819 be probably signed the petition from 237 settlers to the Secretary, of War protesting their removal. He was probably the man who signed as William G. Looney with his brothers Allen and Benjamin and several cousins. This was on the last page of the third petition. The group my have been located in Jackson County of Alabama Territory. At the 1830 census he was not living with his parents in Jackson County, Alabama.

Benjamin(5) (Isam(4), Benjamin(3) ) was born 5 Nov. 1804 in western Hawkins County, Tennessee. He was living on the Indian lands in northern Alabama in 1819 and with brothers and cousins signed the settlers petition that summer to be allowed to harvest their crops. He lived with his parents in Jackson County, Alabama, at the 1830 census.

This must be the Benjamin who about 1834 married Samantha Holder, b. 1818, daughter of Bledsoe Holder and Elizabeth Stewart (and sister to William Lawson holder b. ca 1819, who married Mary (or Maryon) Looney, daughter of John and Elizabeth Littleton Looney). Benjamin died soon after his marriage. Benjamin and Samantha had:

daughter b. ca 1835; died young.
William(6) January Looney b. ca January 1836 (See 6th Generation)

Jessie (5) Looney (Isam(4), Benjamin (3)) was born 27 January 1808 in western Hawkins County, Tennessee. He was probably living on the Indian land along the Tennessee River in Northern Alabama in 1819 but was too young to sign the petition with his brothers and cousins.

No record of Jessie(5) has come to light in Alabama. He lived with his parents in Jackson County, Alabama at the 1830 Censes. He was married almost immediately thereafter to Polly and they lived in Alabama at least until the birth of their daughter Sarah ca 1835.

Jessie Looney purchased 40 acres in St. Clair County, Missouri, from his brother John C. Looney and wife Sally for $50.00 (See St. Clair Deeds D, pg. 375).

Information concerning this family can be obtained from the Probate Records of St. Clair County, Missouri, Box 71.

From census records, the children of Jessie and Poly Looney were:
        Son b. 1831, left home before 1840
        Matthew T. Looney b. 1833; m. April 1856, Senah Davis
(See box 100, Probate Records of St. Clair, Missouri).
        Sarah Looney b. 1835, Alabama
        Son b. 1837; d. bef. 1850
        Son b. 1839; d. bef. 1850
