        Jesse J. Looney b. 1849 (male)
        Kliza D. Looney b. 1853
John A. Looney b. 1856, (see box 70, Probate Records of St. Clair,
            Missouri).

John(5)C. Looney (Isam(4), Benjamin (3)) was born I Dec. 1815, probably in western Hawkins County,, Tennessee, at about the time that his parents were migrating southwestward to the Indian along the Tennessee River on which the white settlers were encroaching. A careful analysis of available census records shows that he lived with his parents in Jackson County, Alabama, at the 1830 census and that his eldest brother Allen(5) Looney also lived near. (This is not the John C. Looney, b. Ca 1822, who was in Jackson County, Alabama, in 1850.)

John C.(5) (Isam(4) ) married Ca 1834 Sally, b. Alabama, and they lived in Alabama until their second child was born in 1836. They moved to Polk County, Missouri, before their third child was born in 1839. The family is listed in Polk County in 1840. They moved next to St. Clair County, Missouri, and are listed there in the 1850 census.

John 0. Looney entered 40 acres in St. Clair County, Missouri, on 28 Dec. 1846 and later with wife Sally., sold this land to Jesse Looney of St. Clair County, $ 50.00 (St. Clair Deeds D, page 375). He purchased 240 acres upon the waters of Osage River from Cidney C. Dean and Susanne his wife on 16 March 1849 for $200.00 (Book C. P. 455). On 2 December 1850 he sold to his younger brother Janioh Looney for $400.00 all his interest in lands of which his father Isam Looney died seized in St. Clair County, also the interest he had in and to the personal estate of said deceased father. (Book D. p. 114.)

End Page - 91 - Mrs. Julius Vanderheide, who has done almost all of the searching of public records concerning the Looneys in Missouri, looked at the Probate Records of St. Clair County, and she reports no references to the John C. Looney estate. It is entirely possible that this family left St. Clair County soon after 1850. Mrs. Vanderheide does report a Box 42, John C. Looney, probate Records of Polk County, Missouri.

From the census the family of John (5)C. and Salley Looney is
reconstructed as follows:
Benoni Looney b. ca 1835, Alabama
        Masteen T. Looney b. ca 1836, Alabama
Hugh L. White Looney b. ca 1839, Missouri
Sally Ann Looney b. ca 1843, Missouri
Mary Jane Looney b. ca 1847, Missouri

(Note: on Jan. 23, 1852, John C. Looney sold to John R. Barnest, three tracts of land and Rebecca S. Looney signed with him. (Book E, pg. 5). Was this the above John C. Looney and wife (Rebecca) Salley Looney)?

John (5) Looney (Isam(4), Benjamin(3) ) was born 19 Sept. 1828, in Alabama, where his parents settled on lands recently ceded by the Indians and made available for white settlers. Janiah lived with his parents In Jackson County, Ala., in 1830, in Greene County, Missouri in 1840, and in St. Clair County, Missouri, in 1850.

On 2 December 1850, after the death of Isam(4) Looney, Janiah(5) Looney purchased from his older brother John C. Looney for $400.00, all the right and interest that John C. Looney was entitled to from the estate of their father, both real and personal.

Janiah Looney was a witness in April 1856 when his nephew Matthew

T. Looney (Jesse(5), Isam(4)) married Senah Davis. No further information at present available.

John(5) Looney (Robert(4), Benjamin(3) ) was born Ca 1800, perhaps in Stanley Valley, Hawkins County, Tenn. He married Margarett Hilliard, born Ca 1800 and they lived in Marion County, Tenn. They had two girls born before 1825 as shown by the 1830 census. The county records show that his lands were mentioned in a dead, Brumley to Johnson, 11 Oct. 1825, and he was a witness on a deed, McIver to Hilliard, 11 April 1827, but no deed or grant to John Looney was found. The register said that land had continued in the Looney family for generations. He was styled Looney in 1840 census but Luna in 1850. The census records show that John had a wife Margarett in 1850, and that his children were:

        Girl b. ca 1821
        Girl b. ca 1823
        Evaline b. ca 1825

        John b. ca 1833
        Elizabeth b. ca 1837
        Sarah b. ca 1840

John(5) Looney (Absalom(4), Benjamin(3)) was born 9 April 1804 in Stanley Valley, Hawkins County, Tenn. John(5) married (1) 11 Nov. 1830 in Knox County, Tennessee (Knoxville register 17 Nov. 1830) Isabella Coleman b. 18 Nov. 1804, d. 18 Sept.1854 in Knox County, Tennessee. John (5) Looney married (2) 29 Aug. 1859, in Knox County, Matilda Wells.
He died in Knox County 11 March 1870.

Joseph (5) McMinn Looney (Absalom (4), Benjamin(3)) was born ca. 1813 in Stanley Valley, Hawkins County, Tennessee. He was named for the Tennessee Governor Joseph McMinn who left him a small legacy (1824). Was this the Joseph M. Looney who married 10 May 1838, Amanda Hickey (Knox County Marriage Records)?

Joseph M. Looney purchased 40 acres of land in Bienville County, LA on 7 March 1850, NE 1/4 of NE 1/4 of Sec. 20, Twp 15, R7; and patented same 10 June 1850. The 1850 Census was taken there in September and Joseph M Looney is not listed, although Absalom(4), his father, and family are listed.

Joseph M. Looney, probably went immediately to the neighboring county of West Feliciana, LA., where as Joseph Looney, b. 1803 in Tennessee, with wife Louisa b. 1807 in Tennessee. He is listed in 1850 with children:

        Robert (6) W. Looney b. 1826

Robert(6) W. Looney, b. 1826, is listed as an Inn Keeper in 1850 Census of Bossier County, La and living with him s Robert (5) J. Looney, b. 1824, who was the son of Absalom (4) and another uncle, Benjamin (5) Franklin Looney, b. 1833, was there also and described as a student.

Absalom (5) Looney (Absalom (4), Benjamin (3) as born 3 May 1818 in Stanley Valley, Hawkins County, Tennessee. He lived with his older brother John in 1850, in Knox County and perhaps he was with him in 1840 also. Absalom served in the Mexican War.
