Make Mine Slushy
The Slow Slushy BoysThey make great wine in France; now they also make great rock n roll. The Slow Slushy Boys have been together for nearly a decade honing a sound as vintage as a finely aged Bordeaux. But this ain't music for no sippin' sophisticatethis is foot-stompin', grape-stompin' boogaloo till you're blue party music. Whether you're on the dance floor doing the Boob or the Whelkey Walk, the Slow Slushy Boys keep the beat pumpin' and the organ wailin' like no one since Manfred Mann first belted out "Doo Wah Diddy." This collection represents their first American CD, which gathers 16 of their best tracks from the past 7 years: "Do the Boob," "She-Demon," "Get Back," "Nobody But a Snobby Fool," and many more. When you're in a quandry over what musical concoction to serve your friends at your next happening, make it slushy!

Spitfire Bar-Bee
The Longhorn DevilsThe Dutch have a long-running history of great instrumental rock n roll dating back several decades and marked by a creative mixture of a variety of influences. Little known outside their native Arnhem, the Longhorn Devils continue this tradition with their first internationally distributed release, "Spitfire Bar-Bee," which mixes surf, twang, blues, and ethnic influences for a sound that is as alluring as it is lethal. Fans of recent Dutch outfits such as the Treble Spankers and the Krontjong Devils will find plenty to like on "Spitfire Bar-Bee" from the movin' and groovin' opening of "Monkey Ride" to the pinpoint timing and musical virtuosity of "Gabad" to the eerie aggression of "Winnetou." Noted surf DJ Phil Dirt has commented, "This should be a monster release among surf and rock instro fans." One listen and you'll be hookedit's hard to resist temptation!

Various ArtistsOften imitated but underappreciated, Booker T & the MGs defined soul instrumental music in the 1960's, from the release of "Green Onions" in 1962 to their reinterpretation of the Beatles' "Abbey Road" on "McLemore Ave.," this Stax house band was famous for infectious melody, a rock-steady beat, and the incomparable interplay between Booker T. Jones on the Hammond B-3 and Steve Cropper on his Fender Telecaster.
This tribute compilation features 13 contemporary artists putting their spin on some of the MGs most memorable tunes. The Slackmates, Tiki Tones, Los Banditos, the Sandblasters, Del Noah & the Mt. Ararat Finks, McLemore Ave., I Cosmonauti, the Omega Men, the Sir Finks, the Cocktail Preachers, the Waistcoats, the Bradipos IV, and Pollo del Mar weave Hammond, Farfisa, fuzz guitar, melodica, and moog for a varied collection of truly unique and inspired instrumental gems. It's "your move!"

Swingin' Planet
The MetalunasThe second full-length effort from Mark Brodie & crew, this 10-track ad-Venture in Space features lots of dark, reverbed guitar, spooky organ, and occasional smatterings of sci-fi soundtracks to liven up any close encounter of the swingin' kind. The happening kicks off with "Venus A-Go-Go" and keeps hopping with "Futuristic Twist." Get ready for a "Metaluna Luau," then prepare to be taken "Out of Limits" on the Marketts' classic. The whole thing's a gas, dudeespecially the closing track, "Sounds From Uranus." They say that in space, no one can hear you scream'cause the party's too freakin' loud on this "Swingin' Planet!"
