Often imitated but underappreciated, Booker T & the MGs defined soul instrumental music in the 1960's, from the release of "Green Onions" in 1962 to their reinterpretation of the Beatles' "Abbey Road" on "McLemore Ave.," this Stax house band was famous for infectious melody, a rock-steady beat, and the incomparable interplay between Booker T. Jones on the Hammond B-3 and Steve Cropper on his Fender Telecaster.
