Katy Railroad Depot
_____________________________________________________________
Denison, Texas

Denison became an important North Texas rail center when the Katy Railroad snubbed Sherman, the largest town in the area and the Grayson County seat, because it refused to pay the subsidy that the railroads expected of the towns that would profit from the lines.  When the Katy stopped at Denison, the Houston & Texas Central simply extended their line from Sherman to meet it.  Eventually, five rail lines would run through Denison.

I think this station is among the nicest in the state.  Unfortunately, it has been almost a year since I visited it and I do not recall the details about the station's age or history.  I will endeavor to find out, however, and when I do, I will post the information here.

View of Interior
I know, it is a dark picture.  I did not anticipate the need for a flash that day so I did not have it with me.

Rear View

Before fiber optics there were lots of wires and glass insulators alongside the railroad tracks. You can still see them in many places, but they are becoming increasingly rare.
