NOTES: (1) Handset Frequenices are also used in low power handie-talkies and baby room monitors.

You'll notice I titled this page "46 MHz Cordless" however most of the frequencies listed are not 46 MHz. Ok, here's the reason. When cordless phones were first introduced to the public the F.C.C. only allocated a few frequencies around 1.8 MHz. Then after several years Cordless phones become very popular and the 1.8 MHz freqs become crowded. At that time the F.C.C. allocated 10 channel pairs where the base units were on 46.XXX MHz. With more people buying these in house bugs, more and more chanel pairs were allocated to cordless phones.

Monitoring Hints: Don't worry about the handset frequency as the handsets don't usually have enough power to be heard more than a few hundred feet, and usually only one side of the conversation can be heard. What you really want to program into your scanner are the base frequencies. Manufactures of cordless phones usually will advise owners to place the base unit in the highest location possible in the home. The reason is to get the antenna up as high as possible. Also, the base unit will broadcast both sides of the conversation on it's frequency. I'm not sure if the base units broadcast at higher power or not, but they usually are much easier to hear. If you life in an apartment complex, you are in heaven when it comes to monitoring these nifty little devices. It is possible to pick up the base unit for 1/2mile away.

Above I said the first phones were around 1.8MHz, please don't quote me on that freq, but I do remember it was just above the AM broadcast band somewhere between 1.6 MHz and 1.8 MHz.

Remember, it is illegal to divulge ANY information you hear, so please don't go shooting your mouth off about the latest gossip you heard about your neighbors. If people would have simply followed this LAW from its beginnings we would not have the Government trying to take way our freedoms of listening to the airwaves! Also remember, if you hear people dealing in drugs or plotting to commit murder, by law you are NOT allowed to tell the police! Remember, it was Big Government who made the stupid scanner laws!
