Monitoring the US Navy (a start)

The vast majority of what you can hear will be Link-11
coordination comms, Anti-Air Warfare nets, some misc
battlegroup nets, etc. using standard trigraph tactical
callsigns like Lima 6 Xray (letter-number-letter) often
shortened to the last two characters (6 Xray). Some of
the nets use a single-letter tactical callsign.

One of the few places one can hear the ships using their
name as an ID is when they test emitters with Norfolk (Va)
SESEF (Ships Electronic Systems Evaluation Facility).
Primary frequency is 7535.0 in USB. SESEF is a day-
time operation only, so they are active only 1130 to 2000
UTC as a rule. Other frequencies where they turn up using
their names as ID: 5696.0/8983.0 -USCG air/ground; 2182.0
International maritime distress; 2670.0/5320.0 w/USCG; on
any of the AT&T Coastal Stations (KMI, WOO and especially
WOM) ship frequencies. The crew members use them to
make radiotelephone calls home although not as often as they
use to due to shipboard satellite equipment. The Navy's
hoovercraft, or LCAC's (Landing Craft Air Cushioned) of AC4,
Assault Craft Unit 4, Little Creek, VA, can be heard on
7536.5 using the callsign HOPPER ##.

Gone are 2716.0 Port Common (was very active along the
east coast); 8719.0 COMSUPRON 8 (Combat Support Sqd
8, Little Creek, Va aka "The Salvage Channel"); the Navy
HICOM freqs; and the Intercommand Switchboards for east &
west coasts using 4066.1/4360.5, 8247.7/8771.6, and
        4066.1/4360.0 frequency pairs.

8971.0 is used as "safety of flight" (air/ground) using tactical
        callsigns.

Tactical callsign nets can be found as follows:
FOXTROT TANGO (associated with Joint Inter-Agency Task
Force -East or JIATF-E op's in the Caribbean)
        3037, 4162.5, 4164, 4524, 4735, 5293, 5335, 6236, 6723, 6735,
        6750, 6835, 8024, 8025.5, 8308, and 8971
