Singer 401

One of Barbara's favorite machines

This is the Singer 401-G which we purchased in Germany in 1960; For those of you who are familiar with the 401's you will notice the different extension bed with little drawers for the attachments. It also has a top wind bobbin with automatic shut-off, and the extra thread take up lever like the 503. This machine was ordered with an export motor for US use, but came with a manual totally in German. They obtained an English copy however, and but wanted the German one back. This machine is now in the collection of daughter Sharon.

This is the more familiar 401A made in Anderson, South Carolina. Note the difference in the bobbin winder and the thread takeup area.
