PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

VARIAN, INC: Developed system selftest programs which have significantly reduced costs and improved product quality of Varian Inova, Mercury and InfinityPlus Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Magnetic Resonance Imaging instruments.

These selftest programs are exhaustive (thousands of test steps) checks of gain, level, frequency, phase, modulation and spectral characteristics, with shim and gradient current measurements. Written in a variant of Pascal with C language pulse sequences, they run in a UNIX environment. Detailed and summary test and troubleshooting records are archived via a local network.

Developed a PC controlled test system for frequency synthesizers, pulsed field gradient amplifiers and RF amplifiers using IEEE 488 and Visual Basic. Synthesizer tests use downconversion to a period mode counter to make several measurements per second with 0.1 Hz resolution. This test system significantly reduced the rate of returns to OEM vendors.

WILTRON (now Anritsu):  Developed impulse noise, return loss and envelope delay measurements for T1 telephone test sets, using the TI TMS320 DSP chip and band limited interpolation.

Developed the time domain option for the Wiltron 360 Vector Network Analyzer, using the chirp-z transform. Ported the chirp-z transform to the AT&T DSP32 chip.

UNITED AIRLINES:  Developed automatic test equipment for altimetry, aircraft power, engine monitoring, fluid pressure and flow, ground proximity warning and radio navigation, controlled via the IEEE 488 interface.

HEWLETT-PACKARD: Designed the HP 9540 Automated Transceiver Test System, using digital signal processing techniques to reduce instrument count. Developed transceiver test program to EIA specs and system selftest program in HP BASIC.

IIT RESEARCH INSTITUTE:  Conducted studies in the areas of EMC, EMP, ECM and radio receiver spurious responses.

ZENITH RADIO CORPORATION:  Designed analog and RF circuitry used in production military search radar applications of the Electron Beam Parametric Amplifier.
