Montgomery Ray West, 62, passed away following a sudden illness at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas on July 3, 2008 surrounded by family and friends.
Monty was born on February 4, 1946 in El Paso, Texas. He wore many hats, from Tilley to Santa Claus. Monty was an entrepreneur, owning Montgomery Automation and a former partnership, Pate-West Interest. He showed his passionate support of music in the Houston area through his lifetime membership in the Fort Bend Songwriter's Association where he served as a past president. His wit came through in his larger than life stories and his ability to make others laugh when they took themselves too seriously. He was an encouraging mentor who guided many to discover their hidden potential.
He is survived in death by his beloved wife, Dixie West of Sugar Land, daughter and partner Erin West and Timothy Fry of Sugar Land, daughter and son-in-law Gwendolyn and Stanley Springerley of White Oak, son and daughter-in law Dennis Riggs and Anais Fritzlan of Toronto, Canada, grandson Ethan Fry of Sugar Land, aunt Gervis Jones of Crestview, Florida, sister-in-law and husband Pamela and Dennis Milliron of Gilmer, brother-in-law and wife Craig and Mary McFarland of Tyler, niece and fiance Jennifer Milliron and Justin Atherton of Arlington, niece Stephanie Milliron of Dallas, nephew Aubrey Milliron of Houston, close friends Robert and Sally Coonrod of Austin, John Hansen of Houston, and Brian and Pam Kalinac of Houston, as well as numerous other family and friends.
Funeral Services with Rev. Dr. Michael Fry officiating were held at Grace Presbyterian Church, located at 10221 Ella Lee Lane, on July 8, 2008 with viewing at 9:00 A.M. and services at 10:00 A.M.
‘Monty was one-of-a-kind, a liver of life, a person who lifted the spirits of all in
the room.’ He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
