From csmkersh@flash.net Wed Jul 16 08:45:56 1997 Newsgroups: talk.politics.guns Subject: Very Special Agents Re-Visted - Part VII From: csmkersh@flash.net (Sam A. Kersh) Date: Wed, 16 Jul 1997 13:45:56 GMT On page 286 & 287, VSA, jimmy boy has penned: "On December 4, 1993, ATF held a conference to plan tactics for executing the warrants they'd obtain - one for Koresh's arrest, a second to search Ranch Apocalypse for contraband firearms. Those present included Agent Aguilera, ASAC James Cananaugh, Houston SAC Philip Chojnacki (designated overall raid commander) and ASAC Chuck Sarabyn, who'd serve as tactical coordinator. This would be critical. ATF-Little Rock's Agnet-in-charge, Bill Buford, was a Special Forces combat veteran with past operations experience in planning and carrying out large-scale ATF operations, but leadership selections were made on the basis of rank rather than experience." First, the error in the date (should have been December 4, 1992) was in the book; maybe jimmy boy's error or maybe the publishers. Second, command selections were made by the book, or ATF's National Response Plan, not the 'Good ole Boy' system jimmy boy alludes to. Selection of Chojnacki as incident commander and Sarabyn as tactical commander were mandated under ATF's National Response Plan... Jimmy boy has skipped over the small fact(1) that in November, 1992, ATF agents were already discussing with LTC Lon Walker, DoD rep to ATF, ATF's "needs' for military support. Walker informed ATF that support could be made, but without a drug nexus, ATF would have to reimburse the military. LTC Walker specifically states in his notes he was NOT told of a drug connection(2). LTC Walker's notes states "Aguilera said there was no known drug nexus." One of the things ATF DID discuss in December of 1992 with the military was the need for Close Quarters Combat/Close Quarters Battle training by US Special Forces. Remember, this was a full 3 months before the raid and over 1 month before agents moved into the undercover house.
