The Art of Listening ...
A Personal Point of View

Ever you ever said, "Kids don't listen anymore"?

Has it dawned on you that they might be following their parents' example? Do we listen well?

To me, listening is something that has to be learned. You have to be interested in the subject of course, but people tend to not hear even during the time instructions are given.

They answer the radio, without being prepared to write the instructions down. As a past Yardmaster, that was something that got in my craw. People answered, but they didn't receive. They say "over", but they're where still "out".

The Yardmasters and STO's have only so much time to talk on the radio. The last thing they need, is to have to repeat.

Remember, the last thing you want your kids to say is, "What did you say? I didn't hear you ... ."
