The Fort Worth Service Unit grade crossing committee met on February 14. In 1996, there were a total of 31 crossing collisions on the service unit. This year we have set our goal to reduce crossing collisions by 10%.

We are off to a good start, since we have only had two accidents through February on the service unit, compared to six for the same period last year.

These numbers include the merged SP and the trackage to Sweetwater trackage acquired by the service unit on January 1, 1997.

The committee will be very aggressive in crossing closures on the service unit, and is looking for a 15% increase in Operation Lifesaver presentation over last year. Managers will continue efficiency testing on proper sight distance(rule 6.32.4) and sounding whistle (rule 5.8.2 (11).

We plan to continue the Trooper on a Train program and better follow up on the Near Miss program.

With the continued help from all the employees on the Fort Worth Service Unit we will make this goal a reality.

Bob is a manager of operating practices at Fort Worth.
