On June 3rd, the Fort Worth Service Unit sponsored a golf tournament for Union Pacific employees, their spouses, retirees, and employee families. The turn out was splendid. We had a total of sixty-four players and this gave us sixteen foursomes.

The format was Florida scramble with a shotgun start at 0830 on the morning of the 3rd. The teams consisted of A,B,C,&D skill levels. The tournament was played at Glen Garden Country Club.

Head golf professional Alan Courtney, along with his excellent staff really did things up right for this event. Since we had sixteen teams this allowed us to have two flights consisting of eight teams in each.

The flight break came after seven holes. There were prizes given for the first four places in each flight along with special event prizes for long drive and proximity. There were also door prize drawings held after the buffet luncheon .

There are a lot of people to thank for their sponsorship of the tournament. The tournament was jointly sponsored by the Mechanical, Engineering, Signal, and Transportation Depts.

of the Fort Worth Service Unit. We also received sponsorship from Glen Garden Country, Golf Professional Alan Courtney, and The Golf Shop.

The others who helped gather entry fees and answer questions were Switchman Tye Airhart, MTO Gene Garrett, MOP Bob Hestes, and MYO Jack Patton.

Everyone agreed that the event was extremely successful and fun. The biggest question asked was when will we be able to do this again? The weather turned out great, the food was terrific, and golf competition was exciting.
