"A Conservative government is an organized hypocrisy." -- Benjamin Desrali

Equal Time..
For months now when driving into Fort Worth from the Mid-cities, we have been greeted by a sign board that says "Stop Law Suit Abuse...." It neglects to mention that is the job of judges and juries. (To my reckoning this is an attempt to limit your and my access to the judicial process and keep it for corporations and people wealthy enough to have a personal lawyer on a year round retainer.)

This past few weeks, a new sign has appeared about a half mile further west. It says: "Stop Insurance Company Abuse..."

If insurance and other companies dealt honestly with people, half the tort lawyers would either starve to death or find another line of work.

General Eisenhower looked with horror upon one of the NAZI death camps and said, "I want every American unit not actually in the front lines to see this place. We are told that the American Soldier does not know what he is fighting for. Now at least, he will know what he is fighting against."

One of the people attending the Texas and Pacific Old Timers' Reunion was Les Trotter, T&P personnel office. One man thanked for getting him hired years ago and also for later talking him out of taking an official's job.

-----------------

Two of the people I had hoped to see that did not attend, were Phillip Koehler the road foreman who hired me, and "Lou" Thresher, road foreman, said by many to be the best official ever to come to us from the Missouri Pacific.

While driving back home, my wife and I tried to get photos of all the standing depots and other interesting railroad structures such as the interurban depot at Terrell and the little power substation at Lawrence.

-----------------

I thought of all the good men and women railroaders that sadly are no longer among us. As an engineer, I particularly remembered some of the brakeman who had the seniority to work either end of the train, but always chose to work the head end. These guys were really good rails and knew their job and most of yours. They taught us a lot. Two of these men that come to mind are E.F."Big Steve" Stevenson and Melvin Sanford.
