ALL THE QUESTIONS THIS MONTH WILL COME FROM FT. WORTH SERVICE UNIT GENERAL
ORDER No. 105, DEALING WITH TRAIN DEFECT DETECTORS. THE TYPE OF DETECTOR
WE WILL BE PASSING IS A 13.3. MOST OF THE SITUATIONS WILL COME FROM G.O.
#105, 13.7.1 FAILED DETECTOR SITUATION TABLE. IT WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT
TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS WITHOUT A COPY GENERAL ORDER #105.
I. We have just passed a hot box detector and it notified us that we have a defect on the 75th axle. We start back counting axles from the lead axle lead unit. We come to the 75th axle and we find no problem with that axle. What do we do?
A. Check 5 cars ahead and 5 cars behind on both sides.
B. Check 20 axles ahead and 20 axles behind on both sides.
C. No further check is needed.
II. We are NOT on a Key Train. In a few miles we will be passing a hot box detector. We have a track bulletin that tells us this detector is out of service. What Action number do we comply with?
A. Comply with Action #6.
B. Comply with Action #1.
C. Comply with Action #4.
III. Refering to the previous question, we come to the NEXT hot box detector. As we pass it we get an "Integrity Failure". What do we do?
A. Stop and inspect the entire train or recieve a "roll by".
B. Comply with Action #4
C. Comply with Action #6
IV. We are on a Key Train when the dispatcher tells us on the radio that the detector just ahead is out of service. What Action Number do we comply with?
A. Comply with Action #6
B. Comply with Action #4
C. Comply with Action #4 via Action #6.
V. We are not on a Key Train and we pass a hot box detector. We do not understand the exit message. We did not receive a defect message or tone. What do we do?
A. Comply with Action #6.
B. Comply with Action #2 & #4.
