
This 80 y/o male presented with GI bleeding. There was intermittent bright red blood per rectum. Vital signs were stable. Physical examination was unremarkable. Initial colonoscopy demonstrated blood in the entire colon, but no focal lesion or bleeding source. A repeat colonoscopy at the time of an episode of bright red blood per rectum revealed the same findings. The patient required multiple transfusions. A labeled RBC GI blood loss study was performed and selected images shown above demonstrate findings consistent with a colonic bleed originating in the right colon possibly in the cecum. A right hemicolectomy demonstrated angiodysplasia of the right colon.
