Low level exposures of lead over a long period of time can be more dangerous than brief high-level exposures because lead can store itself in the body. Lead can mimic calcium and iron, thus tricking the body into storing it in teeth and bones for a period of up to thirteen years. As a result, women who are pregnant and have been exposed to low levels of lead will unknowingly endanger the fetus. Stress associated with a "pregnancy" can cause the release of the stored lead to flow into the bloodstream, and make its way through the placental barrier, and directly to the baby.

All these dangers can be removed if the right steps are taken to prevent lead poisoning. The simplest way is to avoid contact with lead solder. Solder Pal will eliminate hand contact with the solder, thereby eliminating the possibility of lead poisoning.

Two probe sizes are available, probe part # 1000 dispenses .012 to .025 solder wire and probe part # 1001 dispenses .025 to .035 solder wire. These probes are specifically made for these sizes, so you can get a very straight and dent-free piece of solder, which allows you to maneuver through boards containing bulky components, without thinking twice about straightening out your solder. Solder Pal comes with one probe (your choice).
