The Model BEP VII is a modular system designed to measure extremes and ranges of motion for most joints of the human body. The BEP VII system consists of: 1) HPM's proprietary "BEP for Windows" software that runs on a user-supplied "host computer" and allows the user to focus on the test subject, not the ancillary tasks of measurement; 2) a unique, hand-held sensing head (BEP VIIa-2 is sold separately) that includes new sensor technology that allows measurement in any orientation (i.e., it is unaffected by gravity, unlike other inclinometers) eliminating restrictions on subject positioning and facilitating many rotational measures (e.g., trunk rotation) ; 3) a microcontroller-based interface/control unit (BEP VII ICU) that interfaces to the host computer through a simple serial port connection; 4) a compact power supply; and 5) a step by step manual for easy set-up and with detailed instructions for each of the many body sites that can be tested.

Functional units to be tested (e.g. shoulder abductor, knee flexor, etc.) are selected from hierarchically organized menus. HPM's Auto-Protocol and Auto-Proceed features make it easy to rapidly acquire measures in pre-defined groups and obtain printed reports minutes later. Results are databased, allowing progress reports (i.e., illustrating change between any two test sessions) to be produced.
