The Model BEP GM is a special visual display module that serves as a shared measurement system resource. It is used to provide standardized visual stimuli and feedback for tests implemented with other modules that require it (e.g. BEP IV - Postural Stability and Control, BEP V - Steadiness and Control (head/neck, upper extremity, and lower extremity), BEP XI - Speech, BEP XII - Hand Performance). The BEP GM system includes a small microprocessor-based Host-Module Interface control unit (HMI-GM), a state-of-the-art high-resolution LCD flat panel color monitor, and special software integrated into BEP for Windows, HPM's single package for all measurement related tasks. The HMI-GM provides independent control over the GM display as well as a distribution point for data and power to and from other modules, and the LCD flat panel configuration provides not only a standardized and more consistent visual feedback system than a conventional cathode ray tube based monitor, but also advantageous mounting possibilities for proper test facility setup.

Each of the test modules listed above can be used without the BEP GM to acquire a major subset of their measures. However, the BEP GM increases the value of these instruments by providing the functionality required to implement the full array of performance tests they are designed to support, especially visual-motor tracking and steadiness tests. HPM is preparing a new set of cognitive performance tests that will also utilize the BEP GM. As with other HPM modular components, new software will routinely add to the value of each component. With the shared resource approach (i.e. like a networked printer), only a single BEP GM is required in a typical, multiple-module measurement lab facility.
