The RISD Calendar Committee is starting the process of determining the school calendar for next year. If you would like to make your voice heard on areas such as school start date, whether or not to have Fall Break, or whether or not it's important to you to finish the fall semester before Winter Break, please call the RISD administration and leave your message for K. Jonas at 301-3444.

Multicultural Dinner

Plan to attend our annual multicultural dinner this Tuesday evening. All families should bring a covered dish representing their family’s cultural background (to serve 6-8). Please deliver your food by 5:45 p.m. Dinner will start at 6:00 p.m. Desserts will be donated. There will be two serving lines (one on each side of the cafeteria) to help cut down on waiting time.

The 3rd and 4th grades will perform the musical "Kids Are Kids The Whole World Round" after a short PTA meeting at 7:00 p.m. The children will be dressed in ethnic costumes and you can feel free to come in costume as well. First Grade News

Sixth Grade News

The sixth graders have been working diligently on series and parallel circuits. First, they learned about the difference between the two circuits by completing a Macintosh computer lab. Then they discovered the process of how the two circuits work by exploring with the SCIIS lesson. Finally, the sixth graders built their own series circuit puzzles. Be sure to test the puzzles as you pass through the PCE hallways.

The RISD Council of PTAs is now on-line with a new Home Page on the World Wide Web. The page is access through the RISD Home Page, using the address "www.richardson.k12.tx.us" and selecting the "PTA" bar on the right side of the screen. The Council Home Page provides general information about the Council, meeting dates and information about the Executive Board, programs for the group's General Meetings, details about the Council's major projects, and a listing of the Council's goals. Links are provided to the Texas PTA and National PTA Home Pages.

Special Thanks

Thank you PCE. Many of you have been encouraging with your words and kindness during the last few weeks. During September, I was gone a lot being with my father in his final battle with cancer. I appreciate the way so many of you picked up the responsibilities I left here. It is a comfort and blessing to be working with such a special team. Cheryl

Thank you Joanie, Betsy and all your many, many assistants for a great Bike Rodeo. A teacher was overheard saying "It was the best run bike rodeo ever at PCE"!

Thank you Cheryl for your numerous hours in putting together a very successful gift wrap sale.

Thank you Nancy, Jane, Jana, Brenda, and Sheryl for taking over for Cheryl on minutes notice and counting all that Gift Wrap money and checking all those orders!

Thank you Sally for organizing the Arts in Education "Wouldn’t it be great if..." contest while in the midst of taking your "baby" to college!

Thank you Ronnie for sharing your "space" with all those volunteers!

Thank you Jerry for everything you do at PCE!

Thanks to this month’s team of newsletter reporters, Diane, and Julie, and everyone who submitted articles for the news-letter. I couldn’t do this job without you!

In the throws of things, it is always reassuring to remember:

You are not alone;

You don't have all the answers, but neither does anyone else;

You have a valuable resource in other parents and they have a valuable resource in you;

The threat is manageable if we work together.
