Oil Filter Adapter Modification |

The aluminum block used in this Big Bore build-up has a coolant inlet passage that is substantially larger than that of a 96-98 style block, as well as some
other aluminum and iron blocks. It should be noted that specifics as to which blocks have the smaller passage and which have the larger passage has not been compiled. |

The aluminum oil filter adapter assembly shown above is from a '97 Cobra. Pictured on the left is the gasket (PN: F6AZ-6840-BA) that matches blocks with the
larger coolant inlet passage. Pictured on the right is the gasket (PN: F6AZ-6840-AA) that matches blocks with the smaller coolant inlet passage. This picture clearly shows the additional passage area provided by the larger coolant inlet
passage. |

The bolt pattern of the oil filter adapter for blocks with the smaller coolant inlet passage matches that of blocks with the larger coolant inlet passage.
However, the gasket matching the larger coolant inlet passage overhangs the oil filter adapter as shown above. |

To accommodate the larger gasket, an extension is TIG welded onto the oil filter adapter and is milled/sanded flat to extend the existing gasket
surface.. |

Pictured above is the view that the coolant sees as is flows through the OE-configured oil filter adapter (i.e., small gasket oil filter adapter). Clearly, a
fairly restrictive flow passage. |

Pictured here is the oil cooler adapter ported to match the larger gasket and to provide for a freer flowing coolant passage. |
