Much of the following DeVault data comes from the Court Records of Morgan County, Ala. and gives some insight into family relationships which are known and others which at this time are not clear.
Susan DeVault, along with her sisters and brothers, were orphaned at an early age when their father David DeVault died in Morgan County, Ala., December 1822. Rev. William Byrd was originally appointed gardian for most of the children. It is not known at this time, what happened to the mother(s) of these children, but it is apparent the children were without a mother at the time of their fathers death.
