Elizabeth Looney(5) Rhea;(Mary(4), Abraham(3)), was born 4 March
1822 probably in Maury County, Tennessee. She died 8 June 1892 in Somer-
ville, Tennessee. Her parents moved from east Tennessee to Maury and la-
ter to Fayette County. Most of their children and grandchildren remained
in Fayette and neighboring Shelby County.
She married 22 December 1840, Fayette County, Tennessee, John
Rhea , who was her father's first cousin. John was the son of William
Rhea and Elizabeth Breden; a grandson of Rev. Joseph Rhea and Elizabeth
McIlwaine who came to America in 1769, from County Donegal, Ireland.
John and Elizabeth(5) Looney Rhea had the following children:
Mary Elizabeth(6) Rhea. born ca 1842;died 27 November 1876
in Somerville, Tennessee. Not married.
William Abraham(6) Rhea. born 1844 in Washington County,
Virginia; died 1928 in Somerville, Tennessee. He married
1st: Mary R.(Molly) Irvin (b 1840); There were six Rhea
children by this marriage.
2nd: Louise Smith Edmondson (1857-1934). Both of his
wives were distant cousins. No children of this marriage.
Matthew Robert(6) Rhea. born 5 July 1846 in Washington
County, Virginia, near Bristol, Va.;died 21 August 1902,
in Somerville, Tennessee. He married 14 December 1870,
Anna Adelaide Tucker (born 23 July 1850; died 10 June
1938, in Memphis, Tennessee), the daughter of Thomas J.
Tucker and Lucy Mary Lockett. They had four children, one
dying in infancy.
James Samuel(6) Rhea. born 11 February 1849; died 18 Sep-
tember 1898 in Somerville, Tennessee. md 24 February 1880
to Fannie Bell Trotter (born 1862; died 28 January 1928)
They had nine children.
Margaret Ellen(6) Rhea. Not married.

March 1895. Not married.
Jennie Lou(6) Rhea. born 3 December 1874; died 2 December

Walter Preston(5) Rhea; (Mary(4) Looney; Abraham(3)), was born on
28 July 1841 in Somerville, Tennessee, and died 30 November 1880. He
married 29 June 1870, Jennie Bowen Edmondson, a third cousin (born 1852;
died July 19, 1919 in Memphis, Tennessee).(DAR #42084 and #42089). Their
children were:
Hugh Preston(6) Rhea. born May 1871; died October 1901.
married Louise Brown and had one son:
Hugh Preston(7) Rhea,Jr.
William Edmondson(6) Rhea. born March 1873;died January,
1910.

Walter Preston(6) Rhea, Jr..born 1 December 1879; died 6
February, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee. married Lola May
(Mazie) Sale (1879; died 20 August 1920 in Memphis), the
daughter of George Brock Sale and Lola May Wooten, on the
26th of August, 1903. They had two children:
Walter Preston(7) Rhea III. born 20 January, 1909;
died 31 January, 1978. Married 15 September 1930
to Berte Rebecca Butler (1907-1981). There were
three children born to them:

Mary Fanny(5) Rhea; (Mary(4) Looney, Abraham(3)), was born 13 June
1848 and died 12 April 1927. She married 20 May 1875, James Taylor Rhea,
(born 1847;died 1914), her cousin, son of James Dysart Rhea and his
first wife, Elizabeth Juliet Carter. (Note: This Mary Fanny(5) and James
T. Rhea are frequently confused with James Samuel Rhea who married
Fannie Belle Trotter. See Elizabeth(5); (Mary(4) Looney, Abraham(3)) above.
Both families lived in Somerville, Tennessee. James Dysart Rhea was the
second husband of Margaret Jane(5) Rhea, above, but had no issue from
that union.
The children of Mary Fanny and James Taylor Rhea were:
James(6) Rhea, died young.
Alfred Long(6) Rhea. born 5 December 1878; died 22 July
1925, Somerville, Tennessee. Married Mary Armstrong Wau-
chope (born 25 June 1884/85; died 8 May 1948, in Somer-
ville, Tennessee. They had five children.

Mary Ellen(6) Rhea. married Dr. John Kerr Crawford. They
lived at Somerville, Tennessee. They had seven children.
Howard Matthew(6) Rhea. born 22 January 1889; died 24 Feb-
ruary 1958, Somerville, Tennessee. Married Wilhelmina
Litterer. He was a druggist at Somerville and had three
children:

Howard Matthew(7) Rhea, Jr.
Karl(7) Rhea.

Elizabeth Gammon(5) Looney; (Abraham M.(4), Abraham(3)), was born
ca 1848 in Columbia, Tennessee, and in 1874, she married James Bryson
Murphy (1837-1891), or York County, South Carolina. They had children as
follows:
Susan Todd(6) Murphy. married Clarence Eugene McLean, and
lived in Greenville, Texas.
Sarah Esther(6) Murphy. married Lamar Thompson.
Lamar Thompson(6) Murphy.
Major James Bryson(6) Murphy,Jr., Attorney-at-law, of
Columbia, Tennessee.

born in Columbia, Tennessee on 29 September 1863, and died in 1939. He
married 18 February 1891, to Elizabeth Fisher Avent (born 1865; died
1954) of Mississippi. Their children were:
Thomas Avent(6) Looney. born 1892. md Beatrice Usher and
lived in Drew, Mississippi. They have:
Beatrice Avent(7) Looney, who married a Donley of
Jackson, Mississippi, and has three children:
Thomas Avent(7) Looney, Jr. killed 1956.His widow
widow and son live at Lake Charles, Louisiana.

New Rochelle, New York. Married Marion Smith and had:
