The Carrollton Evening Lions Club was Chartered in October, 1983, and is part of the world's largest service organization, Lions Clubs International where more than 1.4 million Lions serve in 43,373 Lions Clubs located in 181 countries world wide.

Our Club was sponsored by the Farmers Branch Lions Club and MD2 Council Chair PDG Joe Montag (then a member of the FBLC) served as our Guiding Lion. Since then the Carrollton Evening Lions Club has been one of the most active Lions Clubs in District 2-X1.

Eye Exam and Eye Glasses Program - Program providing eye exams and eye glasses for eligible children in the City of Carrollton.

Metrocrest Social Service Center - The Service Center, a United Way Affiliate, is responsible for providing food, clothing  and services for families in need. Scope of services include information and referral services, emergency assistance, employment assistance and volunteer opportunities. In addition, it operates a food bank and thrift store. The Center's service area includes the cities of Carrollton, Coppell, Farmers Branch and Addison.

Senior Adult Services - Formerly known as the Office on Aging, this Agency was established by citizens of Addison, Carrollton, Coppell and Farmers Branch to ensure that all senior adults living in the Metrocrest would receive the support and services needed to maintain indep- endence and quality of life.   CELC recently spearheaded the drive to complete the funding of a van for the Senior Adult Services with dona- tions from the Metrocrest Lion's Clubs. The fully equipped van is pictured below.

The Ryan Foundation - Named in honor of Ryan Dant, the Foundation provides funds for research in finding a cure for mucopolysaccharidosis. More information on this disorder can be found by visiting either the The University of Minnesota Gene Therapy Program or The Canadian MPS Society.

Bea's Kids - A non profit organization founded by one of President George Bush's Thousand Points of Light, Bea Salazar, providing educational, cultural, recreational, and sports programs and activities to underprivileged children and parents in Carrollton. Additional needs are met by providing food, clothing, vision, dental and medical treatment to approximately 100 children.

Texas Lions League for Crippled Children - Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, Texas hosting one and two week Summer camping sessions for children with physical disabilities or diabetes. The Jack Wiech Fellowship Program is a primary means for the Texas Lions Camp to strengthen its financial base. The fellowship is presented to a Lion or other individual for a personal contribution of $1,000 or as a tribute from a Club.

The Texas Lions Foundation - The Foundation supports charitable activities sponsored by the Lions of Texas. Additionally, the Foundation can assist in defraying the costs of any designated disaster. The Texas Lions Foundation Fellowship Program is a primary means for TLF to strengthen its financial base. The fellowship is presented to a Lion or other individual for a personal contribution of $500 or as a tribute from a Club.

The Lions Sight and Tissue Foundation - LSTF is a clearing house for the harvesting of corneas and other transplantable tissue. Additionally, it sponsors a number of vision related services including the Low Vision Clinic and a Mobile Eye Exam Clinic funded by Lions Clubs of District 2-X1.

The Lions Foundation for the Shadow Children - This organization was founded in direct response to the needs of families with "Shadow Children" - children who are too bright to be included in special classes for the developmentally delayed but, on the other hand, do not have the ability to keep up in the traditional classroom setting.

The New Horizon Diabetes Day Camp - Camp New Horizons is a program of the American Diabetes Association supported by grants from the Lions Clubs of District 2-X1 and the Junior League of Dallas. The Camp offers an exciting week long camp for kids with diabetes.

Lions World Services for the Blind - LWSB is a school for the blind and visually impaired with a goal to provide functional independence to its students. LWSB is located in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Julien C. Hyer Lions Youth Camp - Summer foreign exchange student camp funded by the Lions Clubs of Districts 2-X1 and 2-E2.

Leader Dogs for the Blind - Conceived by three Lions from Detroit, Leader Dog has grown to be one of the largest and finest dog guide schools in the world. In a recent year, 304 Leader Dog teams graduated and 304 more blind people went out into the world able to live a life of their own, despite blindness. Located in Rochester, Michigan, over 9,800 Leader Dogs have been trained since the founding of the school in 1939.

Lions Club International Foundation - LCIF is the global charitable arm of Lions International, providing grants to Lions Clubs to enable them to answer needs in their communities. Last year alone, LCIF disbursed grants in excess of $16.7 million to Lions Districts around the world. The Melvin Jones Fellowship Program is a primary means for LCIF to strengthen its financial base. The fellowship is presented to a Lion or other individual for a personal contribution of $1,000 or as a tribute from a Club.
