
You start off as Brandon and your grandfather has just been turned to stone by the evil jester: Malcolm. First, pick up the GARNET and the NOTE from the table. Pick up the SAW from under the table too. Click on the big pot (you get the APPLE). Leave. There's nothing useful immediately outside, so step out onto the left side for the "elevator".
Two screens to the right you will find a pond of (salty) water. Click on the pond and get a TEARDROP. Proceed to the right. A leaf should fall and will turn into a peridot, which you pick up. You won't find the same jewels in the same places from one game to the next. However, ten of the possible jewels are scattered about on the ground in this and the second areas. You will note that, curiously enough, the jewels correspond to the birthstones associated with the twelve months of the year. Go North and then East to the Silver Forest Altar. Pick two LAVENDER ROSES here. Go to the West, South, and West four times. Here lies a half-dead willow tree. Use the TEARDROP on the willow. Merith, who has a MARBLE, comes along at this moment and asks you if you want to play and then runs off to the East. You can't overtake him, so just follow him four screens to the East, by which time you will have lost him. If you then go North, you will sneak up on him from behind. You frighten him and he jumps up into the tree. Much as a cat, he is afraid to come down. You volunteer to catch him, but step aside when he jumps. He lands on the ground, dropping the MARBLE in the process, and allows you to pick it up. He then leaves. Go South four and West to find Herman, who tends the bridge (to the next area), which is broken. Talk to Herman. Give him your SAW. Leave the cave to the East, the bridge is not yet trustworthy, and go North twice. Now go West five, North, and West, where you will see a church-like building. Enter and Brynn will also enter the room. Talk to Brynn and then give her the NOTE. She will decipher it for you. Give Brynn a LAVENDER ROSE and she will change it into a SILVER ROSE. Leave and go South, then all the way East and then North, and finally East. Use the MARBLE on the altar and then use the SILVER ROSE on the altar and you now have the amulet. Now go West and all the way South and then West again. You're back in the cave, and by this time, Herman should have fixed the bridge and you can now cross it safely.
Once across the bridge, proceed West and enter the hut. Talk to Darm, the wizard. He will tell you to find a QUILL for him. Leave the hut and go South. Note that you cannot get the emerald that's embedded in the statue, on the other hand, you don't need it. This is a small forest, which is nearly quadrilateral in shape with the acute angles being Northwest and Southeast, so it is not hard to find your way around. During your exploration, you will find certain gems and jewels. It's convenient to put the gems in front of the altar that supports the golden plate, should your inventory become full. At any rate, this is where some of them will be used. Look for three items: an ACORN (on an oak tree), a WALNUT, and a PINECONE. They're all actually pretty easy to find. Once you have found them, go to the screen (at the bottom of this area) where there is a hole in the ground. Drop these three nuts into the hole one at a time (order is unimportant). A Pseudobushiahugiflora will appear and will give you the first stone to your amulet. It provides you with healing power, although it takes a little while to regenerate after it's been used. Now go North three where you will see a bird's nest with an injured bird in it. Stand near the tree (although really anywhere will do) and click on the yellow stone on your amulet, which will mend the bird's wing. Pick up the feather (QUILL) that drops from the bird. Now return to the hut and give the QUILL to Darm. In return, he will give you a magical SCROLL. You can try this SCROLL out if you wish. Once you have the SCROLL, Darm will explain somewhat to you about the birthstones. The first birthstone you seek is at the base of the river where, there are YELLOW TULIPS nearby. Go South two and East two, to the river and click on it near the bottom of the screen. Voila (there is), the SUNSTONE. Pick a YELLOW TULIP while you're at it. Now you need some rubies, which you will notice you have not found lying around on the ground. Go West four, and North two, past the oak trees. Here you will see the ruby tree. Grab three RUBIES from the tree. The poisonous snake in the tree almost always bites you. If it does, use (click on) the yellow stone on your amulet after you've gotten a RUBY. Allow the amulet stone to recycle each time before attempting life threatening activity again. Now go to the altar by traveling South and East. During your exploration of the forest areas, you will have found quite a few gems and jewels (e.g. Onyx, Topaz, Opal, etc.). Many of them are not needed here. Besides the SUNSTONE, you also need three other birthstones: GARNET, RUBY, and TOPAZ, which must be placed in the following order: Sunstone, Garnet, Topaz, and Ruby, into the golden plate on the altar. The gems will disappear in a puff of smoke and the four diamonds on the face of the altar will change color as you place the correct stones in the plate, but never fear as this is their intended purpose. Once you have placed the stones in the plate correctly, you will receive a FLUTE. Next, go East two, South four, and East two, to the bottom right screen of the forest, where there is a kind of scary looking entrance to the fiery dragon cave. Let's go in. Well, here's ol' Malcolm trying to stop you. Once he throws one of his knives at you, throw it back at him. Malcolm will chicken out but he shields the cave with a wall of ice. Use the FLUTE to shatter the ice. Move the remaining gems here and then drop all items except the SCROLL before entering the cave. Some of the dropped items will be needed later.
The Shadowrealm Labyrinth is deep and dark. Note that the light from a fireberry cluster only lasts for three screens! I will direct you through the labyrinth from the cave entrance where there is a pond of water:
You should now have five ROCKs, two EMERALDs, a GOLD COIN, and a SCROLL. You now must return to the gate near where you entered the labyrinth. Here's how to do it, go:
South, West two, South two, West, North, West, South, West, South, East,
South, West three, North three, East, North two, West three, South, West,
South three, West, North two, West, South, and West.
Put all the rocks on the counterweight thing and the gate will open. Go to (wishing) well and drop in the GOLDEN COIN. Et voila, you have a moonstone. Now return to the cave and go to the Pantheon of Moonlight. From the gate, go:
East, North, East, South twice, East, North two, East, North, East two.
Here we are at the Pantheon of Moonlight again. Use the moonstone in the altar. Now the two purple wisps will combine into one and then combine with you. You now have a purple stone in your amulet. Since you are eager to find out what the purple stone does, click on the it, and you are now a ball of (purple) moonlight and can float. Now travel:
East four, South two, West, South, West, South, East three, South, and East.
You're now at the river of fire. You should shift back to your normal self now. Use your magical SCROLL. Go North. Get the key to the castle gate, and return South. Click on the purple stone. Travel: West, North, West, South, West seven, North three, West, North, West, North two (crossing the chasm in the process), and East. We are finally out of this darn cave.
Now I'm going to let your worry about your inventory. When you run out of room, drop an item somewhere, but be sure you can find it later at your convenience. Go to your East two screens. You will be clobbered by a tree. You will wake up in Zanthia's home. After a brief conversation, she will tell you to fetch some magic water. Pick up the empty bottle. Go West three screens. Here you meet Malcolm, who has taken a crystal orb from the fountain. You must get it back. Go all the way South (two), West four, and North two. You have reached the flaming tree. Use your magical SCROLL once more. It's the last time you need it, so you can discard it. Get the LAMP and retrace your steps to the fountain of magic. Use the LAMP on the magical fountain and get some water and drink it. You now have a blue stone in your amulet! Get some more magic water and return East three to Zanthia and give her the magic water. After another brief conversation with Zanthia, she'll tell you to gather some blueberries. To do so, go two screens to the West and drop items which you might need later (e.g. the emeralds, other gems and jewels). The BLUEBERRIES are to be found at the sparkling waterfall, so go: West two, South two past the royal chalice, West two, North, and West four, then North to the sparkling waterfall. Get one BLUEBERRY, it's all you need this trip. Go back to Zanthia and she'll probably tell you to get some "fresh" BLUEBERRIES. Go get another BLUEBERRY. Come back to Zanthia and she should be gone. Put the BLUEBERRY in the pot. The liquid should turn (surprise) bluish.

Go get your SAPPHIRE, RUBIES, TULIP, TOPAZ, APPLE and ROSE back in Timbermist forest. You need the APPLE and ROSE later in the game. Even though you've used the jewels, they should reappear. Be sure to click on the purple stone to become a ball of (purple) moonlight and float before you re-enter the cave. Once in, go all the way South (three) and all the way to the West (four). Get the items. Retrace your previous steps to return to Faeriewood.
To get the (RED) EXOTIC FLOWER go back to Zanthia's place and click on the carpet. You've discovered a secret doorway. Go in.
Go to the tropical lagoon to get the exotic flower. Travel: North two, East three, and North. The exotic flowers are on a beach where there are two golden unicorns at the side of a chopper landing place. Pick one up.
Now return to Zanthia's, where you can mix your potions. Go: South, West three, South two, and West. Once you have a blue potion, a yellow potion, and 2 red potions, go through the secret doorway again.
Mixing blue with yellow, produces a green POISONOUS potion. There is no need to do this. The purple, orange, and red potions are all the potions you need throughout the rest of the game. If you want to play around with the other potions such as the magical yellow, blue, and red potions then go ahead. They're nothing special, there's nothing to see. Yellow tastes like furniture polish. Blue gives you hiccups. Red tastes warm and good (chili)?
Return to Zanthia's place. From there, go past the fountain (West four) and then South, where the GRAIL is floating in the air. Click on the blue stone. Hmmm... we didn't quite get the GRAIL, did we? Let's go 1 screen to the East. Click on the door.
Drink the purple potion and you shrink in size. Now you're inside and the pip-squeak wants something good. How about an APPLE? Give the faun the APPLE. Go outside and get the ROYAL CHALICE. Once you have it, let's go to the chopper landing site (you know, the one with the two gold unicorn statues). Go: North, and then East (three). IMPORTANT NOTE: Ensure you have the following before you drink the orange potion a little later on: the key, one lavender rose, and the royal chalice. Because once you have flown over the water, you cannot return. Now go through the secret door, East three, and then North three. Once you are there, drink the orange potion.
Once you reach the island, go to the East. Put the rose on the grave. Your mother's ghost appears and speaks to you. After a brief conversation, you will receive the last stone (red) of your amulet.
Now go East and click on the red stone. Use the KEY in the keyhole. You're in. Malcolm welcomes you inside. Go East, North two, West, and North. In the foyer, go to the second door to your right. Go East into the kitchen. Pick up the SCEPTER. Leave the kitchen. In the foyer again, go to the second door to your left and then go West into the library. Pull out the following books:
Get the CROWN. Go upstairs. Go West. Go North, where you should meet Herman. Click on the yellow stone on your amulet. Go West. Pick up the MALLET, and play - DO (green), FA (white), MI (gold), RE (blue). Get the KEY from the safe. Return downstairs and go to the big door. Use the gold KEY in the door. Go to the library and step into the half circle. The trap door turns and you're into the catacombs. To get to the green force field, go: West two, North two, West, North, and West. Click on the blue stone on your amulet. Go North and West twice. Click on the false stone on the ground. Pick up the key. Retrace your steps and exit the catacombs returning to the big door. Use the KEY in the door. Enter. Use the CROWN (middle); the SCEPTER (West); and the royal chalice (East). Save your game here!
