"expressions of the spirit"

Betty Grummer Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Betty Grummer quickly discovered the artistic challenges associated with sketching and painting on location in the city's French Quarter, the area's plantation grounds, parks and bayous. With a life-long interest in art, her work is drawn from personal experiences, nature and the things familiar in her environment. She studied with New Orleans garden district artist Marietta Ellsion, and later studied studio and art history at Tarrant County College and at the University of Texas at Arlington. For several years she was associated with a group of working artists in an art studio and gallery in the historic Fort Worth stockyards.

Speaking of her work she says, "My goal is to capture the spiritual essence of my subject, not a photographic copy of what God has already so wonderfully created. In producing works of art I experience a sense of connection with God. It is my hope that in my art the viewer might also discover for themselves some meaningful spiritual dimension."

Seven Oaks Plantation In October of 2001 she presented a one-person show at the German-American Cultural Center in the greater New Orleans area. The museum is affiliated with the National Parks System. As a result of this show a reproduction of her painting "Seven Oaks Plantation" has been published in a book, The Lost Plantation: The Rise and Fall of Seven Oaks by author Dr. Marc Matrana.
