Review: 1940's Radio Hour |
|
From The Ft Worth Star-Telegram
The theatre still has that new smell...while the space is new, the feel is old-and perfectly so, because 1940's Radio hour, depicts a live radio variety cavalcade during the Christmas season 1942 "Director Steven Breese and musical directors Ron Shirey and Curt Wilson have crafted a fully professional production that demonstrates the considerable talents of a cadre of TCU students." This collection of TCU students is the strongest ensemble seen on area stages of late. They work together flawlessly... "Breese's influence are evident from the minute you enter the theatre." The stage reflects an old radio studio right down to the detail of the persnickety soda pop machine. There was a 40's expert in the audience, and I recognized just how good this show was by seeing it through her eyes. My dear friend (proud of her 80-plus years), was a young woman in London in 1942, dancing the jitterbug while bombs burst overhead. As she became fully engaged in this production, lighting up with the applause sign every time, eyes tearing from memories, I recognized Radio Hour for the special treat it really is! "The show is that real. The show is that good." |
