THEATRE ARTS 1: Grade placement: 9-12 Prerequisite: None Credit: 1. Introduction to Theatre: Beginning acting techniques, history of the Theatre, basic introduction to technical Theatre, voice, diction and articulation for the stage. Also covers basic costuming, make-up, career opportunities, and audience etiquette.
THEATRE ARTS 2: Grade placement: 10-12 Prerequisite: Theatre Arts 1 Credit: 1. This course covers various acting styles, production techniques, introduction to design, children's theatre, introduction to dance, dramatic structure, play analysis, make-up and costuming, and public performance.
THEATRE ARTS 3: Grade placement: 11-12 Prerequisite: Theatre Arts 1 and 2 and/or director approval. Credit: 1. This course covers advanced elements of Theatre, advanced acting, critiques and evalustions, public performances including individual and group efforts, elements of rehearsals, auditioning, and playwriting. Participation in additional competitions, performances, and productions is strongly recommended.
THEATRE ARTS 4: Grade placement: 12 Prerequisite: Theatre Arts 1,2, and 3 and/or director approval. Credit: 1 (advanced). This course allows the advanced student of Theatre to specialize in Theatre performance/acting. An advanced demonstration of all Theatre aspects is expected. Preparations for higher education or careers is done with emphasis on auditioning, head-shots, resumes, and business. Participation in additional competitions, performances, and productions is required.
TECHNICAL THEATRE 1: Grade placement: 10-12 Prerequisite: Theatre 1 Credit: 1. Created for the student who wishes to examine the technical aspects of the theatre. Students will learn how to design and build sets, create costumes and make-up, uses of lighting, sound, rigging, and general upkeep of equipment and facilities, participate in theatrical house management, analyze scripts for technical needs, use and upkeep of theatrical tools.
TECHNICAL THEATRE 2, 3, or 4: Grade placement: 11-12 Prerequisite: Tech Theatre 1 Credit: 1 (each). Combines theories of design and stagecraft techniques with the construction and operation of the various elements of technical Theatre. Students will be required to participate in all behind-the-scenes action of productions.
THEATRE PRODUCTION 1,2,3,4: Grade placement: 9-12 Prerequisite: Theatre Arts 1 and director assignment. Cedit: 1. Provides practical hands-on experience in acting and stagecraft through the preparation and public performances of plays. This course may meet for a lengthened class period, or outside of the regular school hours.
