Once again, KHS has had an excellent year of theatrical performances. The musical "Once Upon a Mattress" has been nominated for 10 awards by the Bettye Buckley Awards committee. These nominations include: Best Direction, Best Set Design, Best Costumes, Best Lighting Design, Best Actor (Colin Malone), Best Crew, Best Ensemble, Best Orchestra, Best Choreography, and Best Musical. Awards were presented at the Bass Hall on April 16th. As nominee for Best Musical, we had the chance to perform at the Bass before a near-full house. It was an incredible experience!!!!! Keller brought home three awards that evening.....Best Set Design, Best Lighting Design, and Best Costumes. (We tied for the most awards presented to any one school) Congratulations to an excellent cast of singers, dancers, actors, technicians, and directors!

The play did not advance to the Regional competition, but the judge said that it was an excellent show that brought the characters alive exactly as he had imagined they should be. All shows at the area meet were phenominal. Congratulations to excellent work. We will be performing the play at Universal Studios in Hollywood in June 2001.
Congratulations to the director and students involved in the UIL One-Act play for the year 2000. We performed "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and placed 3rd at the District contest. Lloyd Matthews was named to All-Star Crew for his excellent work with the masks. Julianne Carson was named to Honorable Mention All-Star Cast as Titania. Skyler Stuckey (as Lysander) was named to All-Star Cast. The judge said that the play was visually entertaining and enchanting. "Pretty, pretty, pretty..."
Congratulations to the directors and students involved in the 1999 UIL One-Act play, "The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew." They advanced from the District contest all the way to the State meet. Individual award winners were Nick Willard, Megan Werner, Dustin Gooch, Kandace Gilbert, Chris Gaffney, Jennifer James and Emily Demars. We did not place in the top 3 at the state contest. (But being in the top 8 in state? - Wow!) By being at state, we placed higher than 210 other 4A schools in the state. Not bad for a children's show - huh?
